The Nice Guy Syndrome: How I started doing this work
Several years ago I was in a recovery group dealing with my demons. The group was taking a break for the summer, but I still wanted (and needed) ongoing support. I did a quick web search and came across a guy who was starting a new men’s group in my area.
I called him up, and he told me the group would focus on the work of Dr. Robert Glover who had written a book called No More Mr. Nice Guy. I had never heard of the book or the author, but it sounded interesting.
I picked up a copy of the book…. needless to say, it changed my life.
The Book:
As I read the book, my thought was, “This guy has been following me around all my life and has written a book about me!” The issues and problems Dr. Glover talked about were spot-on in describing me. I quickly went to work, devouring the book, working on the exercises, and dealing with my Nice Guy tendencies in personal therapy.
As I grew, I started to learn that I’m not alone in my journey. There are millions of men from around the world who struggle with the Nice Guy syndrome.
Helping others:
For the past 15 years, I worked in private practice as a psychotherapist. One of the things I noticed in my counseling practice was that the majority of the men I worked with were Nice Guys, and many of their problems in life were a result of their nice guy patterns.
That lead me to go deeper into my own work and recover from the Nice Guy Syndrome. I reached out to Dr. Glover and became his student. I saw great success in the men I worked with and wanted to do more. I started offering coaching to men all over the world and found that nice guys exist all over the globe. My mission in life has become to help men overcome their Nice Guy Syndrome.
My qualifications:
Trained by Dr. Glover: Dr. Glover personally taught and trained me as a Certified Nice Guy Coach.
Education:
B.S. in Human Development
M.A. in Counseling Psychology.
Experience: I work directly with Dr. Glover as his Personal Assistant. If you send an email to Dr. Glover, there's a good chance you'll get an email with me responding.
I've worked with hundreds of men over the years to overcome the shame that holds them back from living in a place of freedom and grace. My sole purpose and hopeful intentions are to contribute to the world by helping men shed their shame and step into the fullness to become integrated men, loving life and living with passion.
My sincerest gratitude to Dr. Glover for making this information available and allowing me to share it with others.
Here’s to your journey,
Chuck
